Why Verify Your Identity?
Know Your Customer (KYC) verification is required by financial regulators across every country Danipa operates in (Bank of Ghana, Central Bank of Nigeria, Central Bank of Kenya, and others). It protects you, prevents fraud, and unlocks higher transaction limits as you provide more information.
Verification Tiers
Danipa uses a four-tier KYC system. Tiers are recalculated automatically whenever a document is approved by our review team — you don't need to manually claim a tier upgrade.
NONE
The starting state. No KYC submitted.
| Capability | Limit (GHS) |
|---|---|
| Send money | Not available |
| Receive money | Not available |
| Wallet balance | 0.00 |
| Daily limit | 0.00 |
| Monthly limit | 0.00 |
Documents required: None — and no transactions allowed.
BASIC
Phone number verified plus one approved document (or a valid Ghana Card on file).
| Capability | Limit (GHS) |
|---|---|
| Daily limit | 500.00 |
| Monthly limit | 2,000.00 |
| Maximum wallet balance | 1,000.00 |
Documents required: Phone verification plus 1 approved document — typically a Ghana Card (Ghana users) or any government ID.
STANDARD
Government photo ID verified.
| Capability | Limit (GHS) |
|---|---|
| Daily limit | 5,000.00 |
| Monthly limit | 20,000.00 |
| Maximum wallet balance | 10,000.00 |
Documents required (varies by country):
- Ghana: Ghana Card and any government ID
- Nigeria, Kenya: Government ID
- Other countries: Government ID
ENHANCED
Full KYC: photo ID plus proof of address.
| Capability | Limit (GHS) |
|---|---|
| Daily limit | 50,000.00 |
| Monthly limit | 200,000.00 |
| Maximum wallet balance | 100,000.00 |
Documents required (varies by country):
- Ghana: Ghana Card, government ID, and proof of address
- Nigeria, Kenya, other countries: Government ID and proof of address
Note on currencies. Limits above are expressed in Ghana cedi (GHS) — the regulatory baseline used by Bank of Ghana for e-money compliance. When you fund or cash out in CAD or USD, the wallet ledger normalizes to GHS internally for tier-limit checks. You'll see your wallet balance in your preferred display currency in the app.
Accepted Documents

| Passport | International photo ID |
| Driver's License | Photo ID |
| Proof of Address | Utility bill, bank statement, or tenancy agreement (≤ 3 months old) |

How to Verify (Mobile)
Step 1 — Open KYC
In the Danipa Pay mobile app, go to Profile → KYC Verification. The screen shows your current tier, your active documents, and a button to submit a new one.
Step 2 — Choose Document Type
Tap Submit Document. Pick the document type you want to upload from the list:
- Government ID
- Passport
- Proof of Address
- Selfie
Step 3 — Upload
The app requests an upload URL from our identity service, then uploads your image directly to encrypted storage. Tips:
- Make sure all four corners of the document are visible.
- Avoid glare or shadows — natural light works best.
- Files larger than the size limit are rejected — retake at lower resolution if needed.
- For a selfie, hold the phone at eye level in good lighting.
Step 4 — Wait for Review
Documents are reviewed by our identity team. Status values you'll see:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Under Review | We're verifying the document — usually within 24 hours on business days |
| Approved | Document is accepted; tier may have just been recalculated |
| Rejected | Document was unreadable, expired, or didn't match — you'll see a reason and can resubmit |
Step 5 — Tier Recalculation
After every document approval, Danipa automatically recalculates your tier against country-specific requirements. You'll see the new tier reflected on the KYC screen and on your home screen's wallet card. No manual upgrade step needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does review take?
Most documents are reviewed within 24 hours on business days. Ghana Cards verified through the official Ghana Card API are usually verified in seconds.
What happens if a document is rejected?
You'll see the rejection reason on the KYC screen. Common reasons: blurry photo, expired document, name mismatch with your account, or the document type doesn't match what you selected. You can resubmit a new document immediately.
Can I downgrade my tier?
No — tiers only go up. If you delete an approved document (via account-deletion flow), your tier is recalculated downward automatically.
Why is my Ghana Card treated differently?
Ghana Cards are verified directly against the Ghana Card API and serve as both identity and (for Ghana-based users) the basis of the STANDARD tier. Outside Ghana, a Ghana Card alone isn't sufficient for STANDARD — you'll also need a passport or driver's license.
Where do I see my country-specific requirements?
The KYC screen pulls your country from your account profile and shows only the documents you need. If your country isn't on the supported list, you can still complete BASIC tier with phone verification + any government ID.
Troubleshooting
If a document upload fails, try:
- Smaller image. Retake at standard resolution rather than highest-quality 4K.
- Different format. JPG and PNG are reliable; HEIC is sometimes rejected.
- Stable connection. Move to Wi-Fi if you're on a flaky cellular signal.
- Try again later. If the upload service is temporarily unavailable, the app shows an error — wait a minute and retry.
If a document keeps getting rejected, contact support — our team can review the file directly and tell you what's failing.
